The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer free rides on Election Day and has placed 12 ballot drop-off boxes at participating stations to make voting more accessible.
The regional transportation agency announced Thursday that it will offer free rides on all buses and trains, as well as through its Metro Bike Share and Metro Micro programs, for the Nov. 3 general election. Metro will not collect fares from 4 a.m. Nov. 3 to 3 a.m. Nov. 4.
Metro said it hopes to encourage Los Angeles County residents to vote by making it easier, more affordable and less stressful to reach polling places.
On Nov. 3, Metro’s Bike Share program will provide free 30-minute rides. Residents can select “1-Ride” at any Metro Bike Share kiosk or in the Metro Bike Share app and enter the promotional code “110326” at checkout to redeem the free ride. A credit or debit card is required.
The promotional code may be redeemed multiple times throughout the day. Electric Metro Bike fees will be waived, and additional riding time will cost $1.75 for each half-hour after the first 30 minutes.
Metro has also created an interactive map allowing users to locate in- person voting locations and ballot drop boxes. The map is available at bikeshare.metro.net/.
The agency is encouraging customers to share the hashtag #pedaltothepolls and tag photos @bikemetro on social media for a chance to be featured on Metro’s social media feeds.
Metro Micro, the agency’s on-demand rideshare service, will also offer free rides on Election Day. The service operates in eight zones across Los Angeles County, providing short, stop-to-stop trips.
Customers can book rides through the Metro Micro app, online at ridemicro.metro.net or by calling 323-GO-METRO (323-466-3876) and selecting option 5. No promotional code is needed, and all rides booked on Election Day will automatically be free.
Metro will also host a voting center at its headquarters at One Gateway Plaza, next to Union Station, from Oct. 24 through Nov. 2, with voting hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Nov. 3, the center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The agency has installed ballot drop-off boxes at the following stations:
