Weekend temps drop, beach hazards through Monday

Posted

(KRON) -- Saturday's weather will be cooler and breezy. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect through Monday night, and coastal flooding is possible during high tides through the middle of next week.

Short Term: Saturday morning, there are patches of light drizzle. Areas of clouds will clear by early afternoon. Highs and lows this weekend will be below to much below normal, with highs in the 60s and 70s, warmest inland. Winds will be gusty, especially along the coast.

Long Term: There is a slight chance of raindrops on Monday, followed by drier air. Warming begins on Tuesday as high pressure builds in.

Beach Hazards: Long period southerly swell from distant Tropical Storm Rachel will build through the weekend, raising the risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents. A westerly swell will arrive, bringing breaking waves up to 16 feet. Large tidal swings will also cause coastal erosion, especially during high tide, as water and waves reach farther up the beach than normal. Stay off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside structures, as waves can sweep across the shoreline without warning and pull people into the sea. Stay out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and strong rip currents and never turn your back on the ocean.

Sunrise 7:13 a.m. Sunset 6:39 p.m. Daylength: 11 hours, 25 minutes.
