(KRON) -- A 1-year-old died after falling from a moving vehicle, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said in a social media post Tuesday.
"Late this afternoon, our community suffered an unimaginable tragedy with the heartbreaking loss of a one-year-old child who fell from a moving vehicle. Words cannot fully express the grief we feel for the family and loved ones during this painful time. My deepest condolences and prayers are with them, as well as with our first responders. I ask everyone in our city to hold this family in their hearts tonight."
The incident happened just before 3:45 p.m. in the 3700 block of Dorisa Avenue, near Northern Light School.
Earlier, the Oakland Police Department confirmed to KRON4 that a juvenile struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon was being treated at an area hospital.
OPD said officers arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering from injuries.
"At this point in the investigation, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision," police said in a statement to KRON4.
OPD did not provide additional information about the incident.
