CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – 75% property tax abatements for three proposed data centers in Canton were given second readings by City Council Monday night.
They are expected to be approved next week.
But as Mayor Bill Sherer explains it, the Community Benefit Payments that the three developers will pay will bring the city nearly six times the revenue over the next 30 years.
That’s a total of $62.5-million, versus the 11-million that the city would see in property taxes.
The Canton Local School district and township are among those losing out, since the properties are within the school district.
The money will go to economic development.
Two hyperscale centers are across from Republic Steel and at Millerton Street and Central Avenue SE, with a smaller project at Trump Avenue and Orchardview Street SE.
The hyperscale centers will be operated by Amazon, with the smaller center to be developed and operated by DAMAC.
The plan will be explained at just after 6 p.m. Monday night in council chambers.
